Warwick Class of 1965

This was where I went to school until 6th grade.  Lititz Borough School contained all grades at first.  After 6th grade, we went to the new High School (built in 1957).  They built the Middle School sometime after we graduated.

I was really pleased to find the website I did about 8 years ago.  It is archived so there is no way I can change it or add anything to it.  But, I am pleased it is there.  Enjoy!

Lancaster Sunday News, May 16, 1965

Lancaster Sunday News, May 16, 1965 (p. 36):

Warwick's 11th Post-Prom Party School Affairs

It's prom time, and practically every high school community and school parent organization is busily preparing for a special night to climax 12 years of education for their school districts' graduating classes.

In recent years it has become more and more of a planned all-night event.  After the prom, community and parent organizations sponsor and supervise extra entertainment and food to keep class members together.   Several are concluded with an early morning breakfast.

Schools spomsor the proms, but the post-prom is not part of any official school activity.

LASTS TO 4 A. M.

The most elaborate of the post-prom activities is that of Warwick High School.  The Lititz Community Center's 11th annual Post-Prom Frolic Friday is planned for the high school cafeteria from midnight until 4 a. m.

Focal point of the "Roman Holiday" theme will be a red and white canopy, extending the entire length of one side of the cafeteria, supported by large white columns.

Attendance is limited to couples from the junior and senior classes.  Admission is by reservation only.

Entertainment includes speciality and spot dance prizes, and all attending receive favors contributed by local industries.  Refreshments include baked ham and chicken salad sandwiches, relishes, potato chips, coffee, and soft drinks.

Prom Photos

Who are these people?

OK, this is me from my Senior Prom, 1965.

I found these photos taken at proms way back in 1964 and 1965.  My friend Judy is living in AZ now, and I am in WA state.  Our 45th class reunion is going to be in PA in October.  I better start my road trip now, LOL!  Thankfully, I do have a dear classmate who is willing to pick me up at the Philly airport, and get me to my hometown in time for the reunion.  I have a lot more things to work out before I can go, but I still have a couple of months...OK, maybe just 2 months now...better start packing!

Visiting Beautiful British Columbia...

Grouse Mountain Gondola
This past spring I had the chance to visit Canada for the first time since losing my husband to cancer almost 4 years ago.  It seemed strange to be going without him, but I was travelling with dear friends from Wisconsin.  Gail is a fellow polio survivor, so when she called to say they were coming out to the Pacific-NW and wanted to go to Vancouver, I was thrilled.  We stayed at the Sylvia Hotel, a very charming place right on English Bay.  My friend, Terry, who lives in that area gave us several suggestions.   We were not disappointed, and would recommend "The Sylvia" to anyone who likes older buildings with character.  [Note:  They do not have handicap accessible rooms there, if that is what you need.]  I had my scooter with me, and it just fit into the small elevators.  There is handicap parking and unloading area.  We drove around Stanley Park (nice walking paths, too) and enjoyed all the spring flowers.  Then the next day, we headed out of town, across the Lion's Gate Bridge to Grouse Mountain (where they held the snowboarding for the Olympics).  On the way up to Grouse Mt., we stopped to check out the Capilano Suspension Bridge.  It is quite a nice attraction, and much more than a bridge.  You can spend the whole day there doing activities.  But, we were there for the self-guided tour, to take some pictures of the totem poles, and to shop.  There is a fee to get into the place (but we were given comp tickets).  We had some coffee at the Starbuck's and watched the gondola take people up on the mountain.  Many of the skiers were on their way down since the snow was getting mushy in the sun.  I guess we should have gone up on the mountain, but we were quickly running out of energy, so we headed back!  The food in Vancouver was a bit expensive, but it was very good...and we were on vacation!  Next year, Gail and I want to go over to Victoria on Vancouver Island. That trip involves taking a ferry, and hopefully seeing some whales, too!

Somewhere Over The Rainbow

I grew up in Lititz, Lancaster County, PA.  It was a magical place to grow up.  As you walk through town (or drive with the windows down), you often caught the roasting of the cocoa beans wafting through the air.  We always had chocolate to eat as the Wilbur-Suchard Chocolate Company was down by the Lititz Springs Park.  I always stop there for some Wilbur Buds (better than Hershey's kisses anyday).  They were a special treat years ago!  I remember getting them and an orange at the Lititz Theater at a special Christmas Show.  We were blessed in many ways during a simplier time when everyone in town knew each other.  Many of the people I grew up with still live in the area, and I sometimes envy them.  But, others of us left the area for jobs or whatever.  If you are from Lititz, I'd love to hear from you.  We have a class reunion coming up, and I for one, can't wait!  Meanwhile, I am living out west, somewhere over the rainbow!
This rainbow is from near Seattle, WA, where I now live!

Yes, Virginia, there is a place called Lititz...

1st row:  unknown, Suzzette, Janice, Kathy, Joe
2nd row:  Rich, Mike, Neil
Miss Nye and Miss Frantz (second grade, 1954)

1st row:  Randy, Fay, unknown, Sherry, Donna
2nd row:  Bruce, Susan, Peggy

I found these 3 black and white photos from Lititz Elementary School.  This was my first year back at school since I contracted Polio in September 1953, and never made it past the first day of first grade (don't remember Miss Nichols from First grade at all).  But, I credit Miss Frantz for helping me get caught up with my classmates since all the review they had was new for me.  Most of us went all the way through school together, and became the greatest class ever:  WHS 1965!

(My dad, was Santa, so mom must have taken the pictures.)
